Nitros’ Tristan Weill top KIJHL forward of the week

Tristan Weill (Kimberley Dynamiters), Sam Lewis and Colton Phillips-Watts (Kamloops Storm) have been selected the Hudl Instat Kootenay International Junior Hockey League 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending Nov. 12.

Tristan Weill – Top Forward

The West Kelowna product helped the Dynamiters win two of their three games last week with two hat-trick performances. Weill netted a hat-trick on Nov. 7 against Golden Rockets, including the winner in a 6-2 final. On Remembrance Day, Weill netted his second hat-trick in a 7-4 victory over Golden, again and was named the second star. Weill now has 18 goals and 34 points in 17 games to lead the league. Of his 18 goals, six are winners, which also lead the league. It’s the second time this season that Weill has been named Top Forward, the first was on Oct. 3.

Sam Lewis – Top Defenceman

The Kamloops product helped the Storm win both their games on the weekend with a goal and four assists. In their 7-1 win over Osoyoos on Nov. 10, Lewis had three assists, including on the insurance goal by Jake Phillips-Watts. On Nov.11, Lewis had a goal and two assists in their 3-0 win over Chase. Lewis scored the 2-0 goal, then assisted on their third goal. Lewis has five goals and 11 points in 14 games, and leads the Storm defence in points.

Phillips-Watts – Top Goalie

The Quesnel product helped the Storm win both their games on the weekend by turning aside 42 of 23 shots. Against Osoyoos in a 7-1 win, Phillips-Watts made 20 saves. In their 3-0 win over Chase, the 20-year-old stopped all 22 shots he faced for his second shutout of the season and eighth of his KIJHL career. He was named the first star and finished the weekend with a .977 save percentage and a 0.50 goals against average. He has eight wins in 12 games this season with a 2.24 GAA and a .924 SP. It’s the second time this season that Phillips-Watts has been named Top Goalie, the first was on Oct. 22.
