Platzl survey results released
More than 500 people responded to a call to fill out a survey on Kimberley’s Platzl earlier this summer and the results of that survey are now available.
The pedestrian oriented Platzl is located in the heart of Kimberley’s downtown area and is one of the city’s main commercial areas. Between July 11 and 31, the City of Kimberley asked for feedback from Platzl users, residents, business operators and visitors about cycling, patios and other activities and issues involving the Platzl.
“We truly appreciate the outstanding number and quality of responses we received. Your responses will help to inform planning and policy decisions affecting the Platzl. If you didn’t get a chance to comment, you will again at upcoming community engagement sessions,” the city noted in a release.
A June 11 council resolution directed city administration to gather information from Platzl users and business operators regarding cycling and other issues concerning the Platzl.
Highlights from the survey include more than 90% of respondents stating support for permitting bikes in the central fire lane portion and 97.1% noted that patios either enhance or don’t negatively affect people’s Platzl experience.
A total of 529 responses were received (eight paper copies, 521 online), of which 499 respondents completed the entire survey (94.3%).
Slightly more females responded to the survey than males, with a 60% 40% split. All age groups were well represented, with the exception of 20 and under (1.9%). The highest number of respondents was in the 30 to 39 year age range (28.2%) and the next highest being 60 and older (20.9%).
