Prescribed burn for Nature Park area cancelled
UPDATE: The City of Kimberley reports the prescribed burn team conducted a test fire this afternoon and have determined that the conditions are not favourable to proceed with the burn this weekend. Therefore, it has been cancelled.
Original story…
Weather permitting, the Kimberley Fire Department, in collaboration with the Cranbrook Fire Zone, will be conducting a prescribed burn on 20 hectares of city-owned land in the Levirs Avenue/Nature Park area later this week.
This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to reduce wildfire hazards along the west flank of the city.
The burn will target cured grass, branches, twigs, and litter from shrubs. Residents should expect smoke to be present during the day and overnight for several nights depending on weather conditions. Crews will be on-site for several days to extinguish burning material and limit smoke impacts.
