Prescribed burn for Nature Park area may begin Saturday

Weather conditions have improved, and the Kimberley Fire Department, in collaboration with the Cranbrook Fire Zone, plans to conduct the prescribed burn on 20 hectares of city-owned land in the Levirs Avenue / Nature Park area this weekend.

It could start as early as Saturday, April 26.

This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to reduce wildfire hazards along the west flank of the city.

The burn will target cured grass, branches, twigs, and litter from shrubs. Residents should expect smoke to be present during the day and overnight for several nights, depending on weather conditions. Access to trails in the area will be limited.

Crews will be on-site for several days to extinguish burning material and limit smoke impacts.
