Report of a grizzly going after livestock
WildSafeBC Kimberley-Cranbrook is this morning reporting that a grizzly bear has been sighted going after livestock between Kimberley and Meadowbrook.
“Livestock is the number attractant for grizzly bears, followed by fruit trees and then garbage,” WildSafeBC Kimberley-Cranbrook noted.
WildSafeBC suggests for those raising livestock:
1. Keep feed secured indoors or in bear resistant containers.
2. Keep chickens and small livestock in at night.
3. Keep young animals close to the home and protected with electric fencing.
4. Don’t bury carcasses in areas where you wish to exclude bears.
Please remember to call the COS RAPP line if you encounter a human-wildlife conflict at 1-877-952-7277.
