Symposium features mega space star and culture
Thinking, talking, culture, entertainment and a visit by one of the most famous Canadians ever are on tap in Kimberley this weekend, Oct. 13 to 15, during the Columbia Basin Trust (Trust) Symposium.
The Symposium, the Trust’s first since 2013 in Creston, will host approximately 300 attendees from around the Basin. It engages key leaders, entrepreneurs, businesses and residents active in their communities to collectively look toward the future of the Columbia Basin.
Everyone who lives in the Columbia Basin is welcome to attend the Symposium at the Kimberley Conference & Athlete Training Centre: whether you are involved with a non-profit, local government or industry, or are generally interested in the well-being of your community and this region.
Among the highlights of the always-inspirational Trust Symposium is keynote speaker Col. Chris Hadfield, the first Canadian Commander of the International Space Station (2013) who captivated the world with his educational and highly entertaining ‘in-space’ videos and tweets.
Another special feature of the Symposium is the free night of culture and entertainment, for residents and conference attendees on Saturday, October 14, from 5 to 10 p.m. in The Platzl.
Fernie’s Shred Kelly and Cranbrook’s Mount Baker Vocal Jazz Group will be performing live, as well as the Ktunaxa Youth Group Dancers, while exhibits and free foods from different cultures from around the Basin (and the world!) will be available. (See schedule below)
There will also be a Farmers’ Market featuring vendors from around the Basin, children’s activities, free climbing at Spirit Rock (for those aged 16 and under) and a festival garden, where you can purchase microbrews from across the Basin.
There will be a shuttle running between the Platzl and the Kimberley Conference & Athlete Training Centre.
The first shuttle leaves the conference centre at 4:30 p.m. The shuttle runs throughout the evening, departing approximately every 30 minutes. The last shuttle leaves the Platzl at 11 p.m.
