Kootenay East NDP off and running

More than 60 people gathered to launch Randal Macnair’s Kootenay East NDP campaign office in Cranbrook the evening of March 29.

The office, freshly painted bright orange, is a friendly, inviting space with comfortable chairs and couches. Attendees of all ages, from students to retirees, were present and keen to get involved in Macnair’s campaign.

Macnair was enthusiastic about the response and noted, “The energy tonight reflects what people are telling me out on the streets and in the coffee shops. People are eager for a government that works for them and they are ready to get on board to help make that happen.”

Colleen Jones, Macnair’s campaign manager, was encouraged. “We signed up almost 20 volunteers this evening which is extremely exciting. We have a great campaign to get Randal elected and we will be working hard on the ground, in and around your communities. Our team looks forward to meeting everyone on doorsteps and in neighbourhoods.”

Jones continued, “It’s important to us that local businesses cater our events.”

Soulfood, a 100% organic restaurant new to the downtown provided exceptional appetizers including local meat from Cutter Ranch. Their participation emphasizes the importance of local businesses and food production.

On display in the office are art and books by Kootenay writers and artists in a program that Macnair refers to as “Kootenay Creative,” an effort “to celebrate the immense talent and potential we have here in Kootenay East.”

Macnair said he invites citizens to come in “have coffee and good conversations about how we can build a better B.C.”
