RCMP identify woman found deceased in ?aqam
The Southeast District Major Crime Unit (SED MCU) has confirmed the identity of a female, located deceased in a newer model grey Ford F-150 near Cranbrook on July 2.
Cranbrook RCMP’s initial investigation of a motor vehicle accident along Mission Wasa Low Road in ?aqam in the early morning hours of July 2 led to the discovery of Anna Morigeau’s body in the driver seat of the vehicle.
Shortly after the discovery, a male was admitted into the East Kootenay Regional Hospital suffering from a non-life-threatening injury and believed to be in the same vehicle as Ms. Morigeau, but is being treated as a victim, reported Cpl. James Grandy of the SED MCU.
The Southeast District Major Crime has taken over the investigation as foul play is believed to be the cause of the accident resulting in Ms. Morigeau’s death.
A male was later taken into custody by police, but released without criminal charges while the investigation continues.
Ms. Morigeau’s cause of death will not be released at this point to protect the integrity of the investigation, Cpl. Grandy said.
Investigators are asking anyone who had contact with Ms. Morigeau on July 1 and into the early hours of July 2, or has information that may help in determining Ms. Morigeau’s activities to please contact the Southeast District Major Crime Unit as soon as possible.
Since the discovery of Ms. Morigeau’s death, numerous police officers have been working to collect evidence related to this investigation, including members of the SED MCU, Forensic Identification Service members from Nelson, Cranbrook and Creston and Cranbrook GIS and General Duty members.
Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to please call the Southeast District Major Crime Unit information line at 1-877-987-8477.
