RDEK approves Wasa RV park
Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) board of directors April 7 unanimously approved the final readings of two bylaws that open the door for a 120-unit RV park at Wasa.
Official Community Plan amendment and rezoning Bylaws No. 2755 and 2756, covering 23 hectares of land on the west side of Highway 93/95 at Wasa, create a C1, Highway Commercial Zone permitting a 120-site campground and other commercial development opportunities.
The amendment and rezoning process produced some community concerns about the tourism development proposed by Thomas Kiy, including traffic on the highway and lake, impacts to groundwater resources, flooding impacts to the proposed septic system and an increase in ATV traffic among others.
The first stage of Kiy’s plan is to build a 120-unit RV Park, which could include up to 24 cottages along with a disc/Frisbee golf area and kids’ bike park. The plan would also include a water system and septic sewer system.
