Tuesday was another big day for Team B.C.’s cross country skiers at the Canada Winter Games as they posted five podium performances; that in addition to the three medals the team earned on Monday.

Colin Ferrie of Kimberley won his first medal of the Prince George-located Games, skiing to gold in the 1.5km classic sprint.

“I’ve never really thought of myself as much of a sprinter, always more of a distance skier,” said the 21-year-old racer. “So I was definitely really relaxed going into the race, not expecting too much, and I think in the end, that kind of helped me. It’s an amazing feeling right now. It’s hard to describe. I’m over the moon really.”

Ferrie competed in the 2011 Canada Winter Games in Halifax and the opportunity to race at home in B.C. was a special honour.

“I was hoping to get a chance to race at home and then to win gold here is just phenomenal.”

Four B.C. para cross country skiers also made the trip to the podium on Tuesday, and for three of them, it marked their second medals of the 2015 Games.

Revelstoke’s Emily Suchy won her second gold medal, this time in the 800m sit-ski sprint. Emily Weekes of North Vancouver won her second silver in the 1.2km standing sprint. Burnaby’s Andy Lin can now add a silver medal to his gold medal from Monday; Lin was second in the 1.2km standing sprint.

Pemberton skier Ethan Hess, 15, won his first Canada Winter Games medal in the 800m sit-ski event, he finished in third place.
