Davidson stepping away from Blues

TSN, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Columbus Dispatch are reporting that John Davidson,59, has stepped down as president of hockey operations for the St. Louis Blues.

John Davidson was raised in Invermere and has numerous family members living in the area.

The Invermere-raised hockey master, who was once considered the premier colour analyst in hockey for his work with Madison Square Garden Network, has been president of the resurgent Blues for six seasons.

“The news comes just months after the sale of the team to Summit Distributing Chairman and CEO Tom Stillman. While Davidson interviewed for a front office position with the Columbus Blue Jackets in May, there are no reported details on where he will go next,” TSN reported.

The former NHL netminder with the Blues and New York Rangers (1973-1983) assumed control of the Blues when the club was undergoing a re-build and together with GM Doug Armstrong built the club to where it finished last season, second in the Western Conference and considered by many pundits as pre-season favourites to finish first overall in the league in 2012/13.
