Horseback archery competition in the valley

The Kassai Canada School of Mounted Archery will present the Columbia Valley’s first International Mounted Archery Competition, taking place at at Luxor Corrals Trail Rides on July 6 and 7.

This event will feature traditional pageantry, fast paced competition, and all levels of competitors from seasoned international competitors to new members competing in Horseback Archery for the first time.

Mounted Archery is a martial discipline dating back more than 2,500 years, combining the arts of archery and horsemanship. Those who study the history and development of either of these disciplines quickly find they intersect at crucial points in history. They have intersected again in modern history with the development of horseback archery as a modern sport studied as a martial art.

Kassai School of Horseback Archery started some 25 years ago in Hungary by Kassai Lajos. Since that time one man’s passion has kindled fires in the hearts of people around the world.

The home school in Kaposmero has developed into a major training center where people from many countries come to train. Kassai Canada has been in existence since 2000, and is home to several dedicated horseback archers who compete internationally.

The competitions will run from 9 a.m. to approximately 1 p.m., on both Saturday and Sunday, and are free to the public.

There will also be a free demonstration of the art on Saturday afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m.

Luxor Corrals Trail Rides is located on the Kindersley/Pinnacle road at Spur Valley.
