Kootenay ICE forward Luke Philp continued his strong play for the WHL club after captain Sam Reinhart returned from the World Junior Championship with gold in hand.
Philp was named the top star for January by Haddad Financial Services Feb. 3 for his strong play with and without the puck over the past month.
The top Three Stars for the month of January are: 1 – Luke Philp, 14 points; 2 – Wyatt Hoflin, 7 points; 3. Sam Reinhart, 6 points.
The 2014-15 season leaders are: 1 – Wyatt Hoflin, 45 points ; 2. Tim Bozon, 30 points ; 3. Luke Philp / Sam Reinhart, 27 points.
Haddad presents the Kootenay ICE 3 Stars all season long. Each month, the ICE will compile a list of three star recipients from all home and away games.
The top three stars at the end of the 2014-15 regular season will win the 3 Star Award.
Players receive five points each time they are named First Star, three points for Second Star, and one point for Third Star.
Fifty-two games into the season, the ICE are currently in fourth place in the Central Division of the Eastern Conference with a 27-24-0-1 record (55 points). They are sixth overall in the conference and on track for another playoff appearance if they can stave off challenges by the Edmonton Oil Kings, Swift Current Broncos and Moose Jaw Warriors.
The ICE are at home this weekend, with back-to-back Friday and Saturday contests against the Brandon Wheat Kings (BC SPCA Night is Friday).
The powerful Wheat Kings are currently second overall in the WHL and first in East Division and Eastern Conference.
