2013 Watershed Symposium: Think Like a Watershed

Columbia Salmon Festival pre-curser to symposium

SalmonFestSymposiumLocal government officials and employees, First Nations, academics, professionals, ENGOs, stewardship groups, and community members are invited to participate in the 2013 Columbia Basin Watershed Network Symposium, September 29 and 30 at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort.

This year, the Symposium, supported by Living Lakes Canada, coincides with the Canadian Columbia River Inter tribal Fisheries Commission’s Columbia Salmon Festival September 28.

The theme of this year’s Symposium, ‘Think Like a Watershed’ will get participants to consider watershed management from a holistic watershed perspective.

“Please join us at this important event as we begin to forge a new age of water governance in the Columbia Basin,” event organizers urge.

The day before promises to be a fun and fascinating homage to a time when great Pacific salmon returned to the upper Columbia Valley to spawn and complete the cycle of life.

On Saturday, Sept. 28, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the third annual Columbia Salmon Festival celebrates the history of the salmon that once migrated to the headwaters. Learn about the cultural significance, the challenges and the prospects of restoring salmon to the Columbia Basin. Festival activities include Columbia Basin First Nations cultural showcases of art, entertainment and food.

The festival takes place at Kinsmen Beach in Invermere.
