Camping options around Cranbrook

Did you know that there are seven provincial parks in the Cranbrook area?

Of these seven, all but Yahk Provincial Park are on a lake. Provincial parks are a great option for family camping. Each site has a picnic table and fire pit and there are a few sites at Kikomun Creek Provincial Park that have electricity.

All the campgrounds have water and facilities of some kind, ranging from pit toilets to washrooms with hot showers. Each park has its own unique reasons to stay, from the great beach at the ever-popular Moyie Lake to the excellent fishing at the more secluded Premier Lake (pictured above). If you want something a little closer to civilization, check out Wasa Provincial Park with the ‘warmest lake in the Rockies.’

If you don’t have time to overnight, don’t fret. Each provincial park has a day-use area so you can enjoy the beach or take a picnic.

If you want to get even farther off the beaten track, you can try a forest recreation site.

Rec sites have a picnic table at each site and a pit toilet. You will need to bring your own water and take all your garbage out with you. Some forest rec sites are maintained by a park operator and there is a small fee for overnight camping while others are user maintained and free.

For those of you who just can’t do without the hook ups, there are several outstanding private campgrounds in our area. Our municipal campground, Mt Baker RV Park, is located near downtown and has lots of trees and a nice creek going through it.

The Regency is conveniently situated on the highway and has pull-through sites for bigger rigs.

There are also two private campgrounds out at Fort Steele and one on the St. Mary’s River near Kimberley. For contact info

Cranbrook is a great stop to stock up on groceries before you head out on your camping adventure. We also have a variety of activities for rainy days or when you need a day in town.

Stop by either of the Cranbrook and District Chamber of Commerce Visitor Centres for ideas and information. The Visitor Centre at the north end of town, 2279 Cranbrook St North, has a free sani-dump conveniently located behind the building.
