Cranbrook Chamber readies for another Black Friday

It’s a little bit American, but it works here just as well. And part of its intent is to keep shoppers from heading south of the border.

Black Friday is technically the day after American Thanksgiving, usually considered the ‘kick-off day’ for Christmas shopping.

While Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving a month earlier, we tend to start shopping for Christmas at the same time as our southern cousins – hence the establishment of Black Friday shopping extravaganzas, such as the one the Cranbrook and District Chamber of Commerce hosted along with dozens of local businesses last year.

Hoping to maintain that streak of success, the chamber and even more local businesses are teaming up to provide another day of bargains and bonuses this Friday, Nov. 16.

Chamber executive member Connor Stewart said last year’s event was a smash success and anticipates this Friday being even better

“It was a crazy shopping day last year for our community and we expect it to be even more so this year,” he declared on the event’s Facebook page.

Helping out where they can, the City of Cranbrook has waived parking meter fees on Friday.

Lana Kirk

“I want to thank the City of Cranbrook mayor and council for approving the Cranbrook Chamber’s request of having free parking (no parking meter fees) in the downtown core this Friday for the Black Friday event! Thank you!” remarked Chamber President Lana Kirk.

Thus far there are about 50 businesses offering great specials during the day.
