Columbia Valley RCMP Report
By Sgt. Jeff Witzke
This past week, January 6 through January 12, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 43 calls for service. The following is a summary of some of the files our officers responded to over the week.
Person threatening self-harm taken to hospital
On January 6, Columbia Valley RCMP was dispatched to a possible suicidal person who had told his family they no longer wanted to live. Police officers quickly located the individual who appeared serious with his intentions. Members apprehended the individual under the Mental Health Act and safely transported them to the hospital for further assessment.
Unruly patient spends night in cells
On January 9, Columbia Valley RCMP was called to the Invermere and District Hospital after an intoxicated patient began causing issues with staff. The patient became aggressive towards the staff and attempted to leave the hospital by shoving a police officer. The patient was arrested and taken to the detachment cells for the night where they were able to sober up and reflect on their poor decision making.
Valley hit with rash of thefts from easy target vehicles
On January 10, the Columbia Valley was hit with a rash of thefts from vehicles including the theft of one vehicle. The suspects also targeted Canmore, Alberta and appeared to be focused on unlocked vehicles. Some of the items stolen are electronics that could be tracked. The stolen vehicle was located on January 12 in Calgary. Unfortunately, none of the items stolen locally were located. The RCMP is reminding people to please lock your car doors and don’t leave the keys in them.
